With only a few weeks to go before the big analog-to-digital switch, you probably think you’re ready. You might be, but now comes word that some viewers won’t be ― and it’s not their fault.
The FCC says come Feb. 17, 2009, about 20 percent of TV stations in the U.S. won’t reach a handful or viewers ― about one in 50 ― who previously received an analog signal. That includes people who thought they were all ready for the transition after buying a set-top converter box.
This is because many TV stations will change the location of their transmitters and power levels in the switch to digital. The FCC is allowing stations to make some changes in how they transmit their signals as long as they provide digital TV.
