A new report says the struggling economy will continue to have very negative effects on the major satellite (DirectTV and DISH Network) and cable TV providers in the U.S.

Craig Moffett, an analyst for Sanford Bernstein, says subscriber churn rates will go up. He adds that there will be a reduction in capital spending and less growth in ARPU (average revenue per unit) as well.

DirecTV has a more affluent subscriber base, so that company may best be able to weather the storm, added Moffett, in his report.
