Following the rumors circulating last month that Google Inc. (GOOG) was in the midst of layoffs, the company late last week confirmed it has significantly cut back on its contract workers, of which it had 10,000, and some full-time employees.
The company, for which contractors make up about a third of the workforce, reportedly announced the news to folks Wednesday as they were leaving for the Thanksgiving holiday.
WebGuild is reporting that Google has rid itself of about 3,000 contract workers and, additionally, 300 full timers have been shown the door.
