Broadband products vendor Harmonic Inc. (HLIT) has announced plans to buy Scopus Video Networks Ltd. (SCOP), for between $50 and $100 million dollars.

Harmonic makes and provides a wide array of video handling products for operators, including and beyond telcos. The company is also known for its ad-splicer product that facilitates the insertion of ads into content.

The proposed acquisition is subject to conditions, regulatory approvals and the approval of Scopus’ shareholders, and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2009.

Scopus has about 400 employees and makes video networking and processing products used within the U.S. and worldwide.

There was no mention as to how the acquired company would be structured or operated, or whether the current management of Scopus and all of its workers will be retained.
