A new report from IDC says 2009 will not be a good year for cell phone sales, but the market will bounce back in 2010.

Cell makers sold more than 1.2 billion phones in 2008, up more than 7 percent from 2007. But the new survey predicts sales will drop a little more than 2 percent next year. IDC says the roller coaster will continue in 2010, with sales anticipated to be up nearly 8 percent.

The report says the growth of the smartphone market was a big reason for this year’s increase.
