Report: Cisco Shifts Resources to Consumer Opps

In what appears to be a restatement of what was thought to be obvious, networking giant Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) is shifting resources to consumer markets, according to a report this week. Who would’ve known? (or been in any way surprised?)

Answer: anyone who has seen Cisco invest billions and billions of dollars to continuously buy companies such as set-top box maker Scientific-Atlanta three years go to home networking power Linksys Corp., social network upstarts and video-on-demand assets.

Perhaps that’s because, when compared to the somewhat saturated, enterprise IT market, consumer markets, as addressed by both telcos and cablecos, represent bigger and growing markets as the race to provide broadband services to the home continues.
