Visit Baltimore much? Like to use the wireless Internet? Then Sprint-Nextel Corp. has a modem for you. The carrier has launched a $150 dual-mode laptop card that will allow users to take advantage of WiMAX when within the Sprint WiMAX footprint, and 3G otherwise.

The USB modem is perhaps a block-and-tackle move to cover the fact that Sprint’s WiMAX service is only available in Baltimore at the moment, lessening the value proposition for business travelers to sign on for the service right now. With a dual-mode card, those users are covered in other locations until the footprint is completed in 2010.

Portland, Ore. will soon join Baltimore as a market.
