AT&T Inc. (T) has announced that set-top boxes available with its U-verse TV service have received Energy Star program certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The telco claims all deployed U-verse TV receivers, “including those already in customers’ homes today, already exceed the efficiency requirements.”

New U-verse TV customers will begin to receive Motorola Inc. (MOT) and Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) receivers that feature the Energy Star label. AT&T says U-verse TV IP-based STB are more energy-efficient than other digital set-top boxes, in part, because IP receivers don’t have tuners.
