Consumer electronics company Audiovox Corp. (VOXX) is bringing live TV to backseat vehicle entertainment systems via Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) technology.
To date, MediaFLO has been used by the wireless businesses of AT&T Inc. (T) and Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ). Audiovox referred to the technology simply as FLO TV.
Tom Malone, president of Audiovox Electronics Corp., indicated it makes sense to deliver live TV to vehicles given that both adults and children watch more TV than DVDs. The company said around 25 stations will be available.
The company didn’t indicate when the new service will be available on its in-vehicle systems, but did say it will be sold through Audiovox's standard channels.
