Set-top box supplier Digeo Inc. at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week announced the consumer availability of its Moxi high-definition digital video recorder (DVR). The $799 box, which houses a 500 gigabyte hard drive that holds up to 75 hours of recordings at full 1080 resolution, is the first Digeo DVR to be available directly to consumers.

According to reports, Digeo had planned on coming out a year ago with two products to be distributed via retail, but then backpedaled on that schedule.

The same report noted the Moxi is not based on the CableLabs’ tru2way platform, but does employ CableCARD, allowing it to deliver cable company standard and premium digital channels, but not video on demand.

The boxes will initially be available at the Amazon site and www.moxi.com.
