Cable kingpin Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) claims it’s offering “the first and only triple play with free HD,” which it says carries no charges for access to high-definition content or for equipment such as digital video recorders (DVR).

The HD portion of the triple play comes in three packages; HD Starter ($114.99 per month), HD Plus ($139.99 per month), and HD Premier ($179.99 per month). Those prices are for a one-year commitment.

The triple-play bundles (80, 150 and 200 channels) also include unlimited nationwide calling and unspecified speed high-speed Internet. The offers are available until the end of June, according to Comcast.

The highest-end package, HD Premier, includes an HD/DVR and Comcast’s Sports Entertainment Package, which includes the NFL Network.

Comcast also claims to have “the most HD anywhere, with access to over 1,000 hi-def choices including live shows, sports, news, and movies.”

After the 12-month promotional period, or if any service is cancelled or downgraded, Comcast’s regular charges, which range from $129.99 to $209.99, apply.

Prices do not include applicable equipment and installation charges, taxes, franchise fees, the Regulatory Recovery Fee or other applicable charges (e.g., per call, or international charges). A $29.95 activation fee applies to Comcast Digital Voice.

HD Plus, the midrange offering, includes HBO, while HD Premier includes it and Showtime, Starz and Cinemax.

The voice element, Comcast Digital Voice, comes with 12 standard features.

HD Starter comes with a 6mbps Internet link, while HD Plus comes with an 8 mbps connection and HD Premier comes with a 22 mbps connection.

Comcast did not say how widely the free HD triple plays are available.
