Mobile collaboration and messaging got a shot in the arm today with the news that IBM Corp. will offer its mobile e-mail, conferencing and collaboration service, IBM Lotus Notes Traveler, through Verizon Wireless, Orange and phone maker Samsung.

Traveler will be available to 85 million users on the Verizon network, 113 million users on Orange's network and millions of users of Samsung phones.

Lotus Notes Traveler syncs mobile phones with e-mail, calendar, contacts and more on the IBM Lotus Domino Web Access e-mail server.

Support for the iPhone via Microsoft ActiveSync and for Lotus Sametime 8.5 (both with one-click meeting support) are expected later in 2009.

Lotus Notes Traveler already runs on Windows Mobile-based smartphones from AT&T Inc. and Sprint-Nextel Corp., BlackBerries and Nokia's S60 series.
