Samsung Electronics(SSNLF.PK) said Friday it’s combining its consumer businesses — comprised of the handset, TV, computer and other units — into one group.
Choi Gee Sung will lead the new Digital Media & Communications division; Sung was overseeing the mobile phone business for Samsung. The company also is promoting three executive vice presidents to lead the TV and visual display media group as well as the LCD unit.
The changes come a year after Samsung was rocked by a tax evasion scandal, which produced a jail term for the company’s former chairman and the resignation of its then-CEO.
"There has been a sense of crisis in the company for more than a year," an anonymous senior manager told BusinessWeek. "Radical change is in store."
