One man’s feast is another man’s famine.

Strike that. Reverse it.

As Nortel (NT), which recently filed Chapter 11, is grappling with what to do next, competitors are swooping in to grab its customers.

Among those who could see upside in Nortel’s downslide is Veraz Networks Inc. (VRAZ). Veraz, which says it’s responding to service provider uncertainty over whether they’ll get ongoing support for Nortel legacy DMS switches, has announced a program to migrate DMS customers to IP-based Veraz solutions.

Veraz sells application, control, and bandwidth optimization products, which it markets under the Multimedia Generation Network (MGN) flag. Specific products include the ControlSwitch VoIP switch, a border controller, and I-Gate 4000 media gateways and session bandwidth optimizers.

“Nortel’s service provider customers need a way to quickly migrate their critical network assets to platforms from vendors committed to their business,” said Doug Sabella, Veraz CEO and president, in a press release issued by Veraz today. “With the Nortel replacement program, we are offering a product and support package that will not only minimize service providers’ near-term exposure to potential changes to Nortel’s business, but will also serve as a next-generation platform for growing their business in the future.”
