Comcast Launches Wi-Fi Strategy in New Jersey

Call it municipal wireless redux: Following a similar move by rival Cablevision Systems, Comcast said on Monday that it has rolled out Wi-Fi access in about 100 New Jersey train stations and parking lots. The service will be free for existing high-speed cable modem customers.

The Wi-Fi service adds stickiness to the triple play and acts as a differentiator for those choosing between DSL or cable.

It could be the birth of a trend: For its part, Cablevision started offering the Optimum Wi-Fi service this fall at Long Island commuter stations and parking lots, with the same model in mind.
