Global Crossing Ltd. (GLBC) has begun reselling content delivery network (CDN) services from EdgeCast Networks in what could lead to a greater role in the segment for the operators, according to a Yankee Group analyst.
The claims comes just hours after online media publishing system power thePlatform announced it was using its volume buying ability to acquire CDN services from EdgeCast that it would in turn resell to Web video sites to help them cut operating costs.
CDN services are vital to the performance of Web video sites and, says thePlatform, also represent a top expense, along with storage.
