At the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Tuesday, Truphone announced plans for later this year to launch Truphone Local Anywhere, a single-SIM, multi-country mobile phone service that will make any mobile call within the set of supported countries into a local phone call.
The service, designed to meet the unique needs of users with international lifestyles, will offer low rates in any supported country while eliminating the need to maintain separate phones, switch between multiple SIMS or incur expensive roaming charges. In addition, friends, family or business associates can call whichever number is most convenient for the caller, making every call cost the same as a local call.
Truphone will also provide full service multi-language customer support and give users the ability to manage their caller ID (CLI).
In addition to launching its service in several key territories starting in the second half of 2009, Truphone is also seeking to rapidly expand its international network and customer base by way of a global franchise model.
