There’s no smartphone coming anytime soon from Microsoft Corp., it said, but the software company will be embracing cloud services. And one of them is now in beta: My Phone.
My Phone is a competitor to Apple Inc.’s MobileMe service, which synchs information from Web applications to the handset. For instance, users will be able to automatically publish photos to online photo-sharing sites, backup and restore information from the phone online and access/update address contacts.
Microsoft will unveil My Phone—code-named Skybox--and two other cloud services at Mobile World Congress later this month, along with Windows Mobile 6.5. The “getskybox.com;” beta site is already live.
