The Skype hits just keep coming: The VoIP darling on Tuesday launched Skype 4.0 for Windows, with the chief improvement being full-screen video calling.
Skype already offers free video calls (and voice, and SMS, and IM) to other Skype users, but now, face-to-face video calling is full-screen and makes use of a new built-in bandwidth optimization manager.
The new version also improves call quality with a new audio codec that uses 50 percent less bandwidth than before and enables “super wideband audio” that it says is “crystal clear.”
Among the other enhancements is a Conversations Tab that lets users toggle between modes of communication and keeps track of open conversations in a viewing pane.
