Sonus Networks Inc. has entered the home stretch on an ongoing IP core network upgrade it’s doing for Neutral Tandem.
Sonus has replaced nine TDM switches with new IP-based platforms for the Chicago-based carrier.
Neutral Tandem provides tandem services to wireless, wireline, cable telephony and VoIP providers, and it said the core network changes have reduced its operating costs while increasing the levels of service it’s able to give customers.
With SIP interconnections becoming the preferred interface method, and carriers moving away from existing TDM interconnections, Neutral Tandem is now carrying more than 6 billion minutes of IP voice traffic a month.
