AT&T Inc. (T) is taking advantage of a clause in the new economic stimulus bill that puts about $11 billion toward upgrading the nation’s electrical system.
While other carries focus on the broadband buildout portion of the law, AT&T seems to be emphasizing more overlooked areas. That makes sense for the company, especially since it plans to pour billions of capex dollars into its network without the government’s (direct) help.
In that vein, AT&T said Tuesday it’s expanding its partnership with SmartSynch, which runs a smart grid used by more than 100 utilities in North America. AT&T will provide special service plans on its wireless network for SmartSynch’s utility customers.
