Need a really, really big pipe to support all those mash-up activities? Want to download a high-definition movie in about 16 minutes and a regular one in five minutes? Well, if you live in San Francisco, you’re in luck, because Comcast Communications has launched two new “wideband” options of Internet service.
Starting Wednesday residents in Silicon Valley, Monterey and the Tri-Valley area can opt for downloads at either 22mbps or 5mbps per second, while Oakland, San Francisco and other Bay Area residents will get it as the year progresses.
The offerings leverage Comcast’s fiber-optic network, which the company says will “dramatically enhance” the user experience.
