COMPTEL has a new chairman.

Lightyear Network Solutions’ Sherm Henderson served in that capacity for the past six years; he chose not to run for another term and, on Wednesday, COMPTEL members voted in PAETEC’s Joe Ambersley as his successor.

Ambersley, PAETEC’s executive vice president, has sat on the COMPTEL board for a number of years.

“Sherm has left hard shoes to fill but I am delighted he will remain active on the board and I am confident that, with the continuing support and hard work of my fellow board members and the COMPTEL staff, the association will remain a driving force in the communications industry,” Ambersley said in a prepared statement.

Meanwhile, the association also elected 16 companies to comprise the board of directors for the 2009-2011 term. Eleven companies already are filling the 2008-2010 slots.

Other industry players elected to COMPTEL’s executive committee include Julia Strow of Cbeyond, who will serve as vice chairman; Jim Butman of TDS Metrocom, who will serve as treasurer; and Bill Capraro of CIMCO Communications, Dale Schmick of YourTel America, Jerry Watts of Deltacom and Sherm Henderson of Lightyear.
