In an effort to strengthen its position with service providers based in the Americas, Hitachi Ltd. will combine Hitachi Telecom (USA) Inc. and Hitachi-owned Salira Systems Inc. to form Hitachi Communication Technologies America Inc., based in Norcross, Ga., effective April 1.
The operations of Salira Systems, a supplier of Ethernet-based PON systems, will be merged into the new company, and will continue to be based in its current Silicon Valley offices.
As a result of the combination, the Hitachi optical access portfolio now will include EPON, GPON and RFoG. Targeted to access network operators, including telecom service providers, cable TV MSOs, municipalities and master planned communities.
