Nortel Networks Corp. and Motorola Inc.’s handset division: two bad tastes that ... taste great together?
Well, that’s idea that private equity firm Advent International has, according to a report Monday in the Financial Times. A source “with knowledge of the situation” said Advent wants to buy the beleaguered handset business at Motorola, plus certain wireless assets at Nortel, and merge them into a new company. The report also mentions that other private equity firms have been approached to form a consortium with Advent to make the deal happen.
