AT&T Inc. (T) said Monday it is doubling the capacity of its 3G network. Pundits say the company is expanding to accommodate devices such as netbooks and, possibly, a new Apple iPhone.
AT&T uses the HSPA standard; its network only goes up to 3.6mbps download speed. But new software upgrades will increase that speed to 7.2mbps.
The nation’s second-largest carrier is concentrating on its mobile data capabilities as it continues to lose wireline users.
