Verizon Wireless is wading into the crowded “I want to be iTunes” music download field with a new online music store.
Verizon is making available 5 million available MP3 downloads that can be brought to MP3-compatible phones and players over the macro network and through side-loading.
The tiered pricing structure will mimic iTunes: $1.29 for new music, $.69 for oldies and $.99 for the majority of the catalog.
We had previously noted that Apple Inc. allows music downloads from iTunes via Wi-Fi or tethered USB cord for the iPhone and iPod Touch. However, Apple also made iTunes downloads available over the cellular network as of January.
