Members of the Communications Workers of America union plan to strike if they don’t reach a new contract agreement with AT&T Inc. (T) by Saturday night.

Interestingly, at least one news outlet was reporting early Friday afternoon that a strike had been averted because AT&T had signed on to a new contract.

CWA workers have been fighting AT&T’s attempts to cut health care benefits, among other issues. The phone company’s stock was trading higher at about 2:50 p.m. Eastern. Shares were going for $26.81, up 28 cents.
