Time Warner Cable is building a fully integrated, 3GPP and PacketCable 2.0 compliant IMS network and said this week it has contracted with Nokia Siemens Networks to lead the way.

NSN is supplying its Interrogating, Proxy and Serving Call Session Control functions (CSCF), and its next-generation Home Subscriber Server (HSS) solution, which features Directory Server technology suited for Time Warner Cable’s subscriber-centric network and services evolution.

“We believe that IMS is not only an exciting technology for consumers who want their devices to work together seamlessly, but it also offers us a cost effective way to reduce the overhead of managing multiple networks," said Mike LaJoie, chief technology officer at Time Warner Cable. “Nokia Siemens Networks has a proven track record with their VoIP and IMS technologies, and we are confident the additional core infrastructure will enable us to enhance the value of services like Road Runner, Digital Phone and others, rapidly and cost effectively.”

Time Warner Cable uses NSN’s hiQ 4200 VoIP Application Server, which will be enhanced through the new IMS platform.
