NAB ― Verimatrix announced at NAB that ZillionTV has deployed the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for IPTV. VCAS is supposed to secure ZillionTV’s on-demand library of programs delivered over an IP connection and streamed directly to the television.

Software-based VCAS for IPTV provides the encryption required to protect the content from widespread piracy and enable a wide choice of consumer viewing options.

The ZillionTV service, launched in March 2009, is expected to offer 15,000 titles from Hollywood studios and TV networks available through the ZillionTV Device, innovative motion-sensing ZillionTV Remote control and a high-speed Internet connection. In addition, viewers have the option of watching targeted and addressable ad-supported content for free, rent content for a nominal fee, or “buy to own,” depending upon what options are offered by each content owner tied to each specific program.

VCAS for IPTV was configured to work in conjunction with the ZillionTV Service’s IPTV middleware that includes specific methods of entitlement for a secure viewing experience. VCAS for IPTV is a software-based security system for broadband entertainment networks that can be transparently updated as required to combat evolving piracy concerns.

Meantime, Falcon IP/Complete and Verimatrix announced at NAB that GulfPines Communications has chosen their IPTV solution. Gulfpines is a Mississippi-based telco.

Gulfpines says it can roll out secure triple-play services with an impressive channel lineup and advanced functionality, such as video recording capabilities and parental controls, using the IPTV solution.
