Like religion and politics at the dinner table, apparently there’s a subject that’s taboo in the advertising industry – bankruptcy.

A judge has ordered DirecTV to stop running ads attacking Charter for its bankruptcy filing. The commercials say the cable giant can’t keep up with the satellite provider’s technology and programming choices because it doesn’t have enough money.

The industry titans had different takes on the issue. Charter called the ads false. DirecTV said it was essentially doing a public service by giving Charter customers some valuable information about potential service disruption.

Charter got a temporary injunction to stop DirecTV from running the ads. They can start up again if they are modified.
