You might look pretty foolish picking up your TV remote control and talking into it, but several years ago, it would’ve seemed very strange to see someone walking down the street – with just a small device attached to their ear – talking to seemingly no one. (OK, that's something a lot of us are still getting used to ...)
Motorola is making it possible for you to use your remote as a telephone. The new telephony features for the company’s IPTV set-top box remote will allow you to place and answer calls while you’re changing the channel or adjusting the volume. It’s expected to be available early next year.
The technology was first announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. It comes with a base station and a feature that helps you find the remote in case it gets stuck in your couch cushions or slides under your La-Z-Boy.
No word yet how much extra you’ll have to pay to get the telephony features.
