Yahoo!’s search business is for sale – for a huge asking price. CEO Carol Bartz said Wednesday she’d be willing wheel and deal with Microsoft, but only if “boatloads of money” were on the table. No specific number was given.
Investors are surely hoping something exciting will happen for a company that is a distant second to Google in the search engine biz. Bartz and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer are said to have talked about a partnership of some sort, but it doesn’t seem imminent.
Microsoft made a play for Yahoo! in 2008, but Yahoo! – before Bartz took over earlier this year – was having nothing of it. The company’s advertising business is really struggling, something many believe a partnership with the software giant could help.
