Seattle, one of the nation’s technology hotbeds, is the place to look for a new software tool that could change the way we surf the Web.

It’s an upgrade to TextRunner, a technology developed at the University of Washington. It analyzes word relationships while extracting information from billions of text lines. Experts are already dubbing it the “next-generation Web search.” It’s an improvement over the UW’s previous TextRunner version in that it can cover more Web pages and topics.

Google jumped on board early, donating the database of Web pages that TextRunner analyzes. The search giant applauds TextRunner for its automation; it needs a lot less guidance from programmers. It’s also better able to guess what information you’re looking for when you enter a limited amount of keywords into the search bar.
