Telx, an interconnection and colocation data center operator, announced this week it has launched new Telx Internet Exchanges in the New York and Dallas markets. Telx has existing TIE peering nodes in Atlanta and Phoenix.
TIEs are neutral, privately owned and managed packet and Internet exchanges that provide an Internet peering platform, which has direct access to destination networks, eliminating the need for transit and facilitating communication between networks.
Telx is solidifying peering capability at 60 Hudson Street and 111 8th Avenue in New York City. With more than 400 service provider and enterprise customers located with Telx in these buildings, this new international Internet Exchange gives customers access to all of these service providers and enterprises. Additionally, since most subsea cables either land in New York or in nearby states and are then backhauled to New York, an international Internet Exchange in the region provides the fastest and most direct connection to traffic entering the United States from Europe.
In Dallas, a new exchange will give customers a new opportunity to leverage peering within 2323 Bryan and the Telx facility at 8345 Stemmons Freeway.
The TIE platforms in New York and Dallas will be monitored around the clock and are now accepting Ethernet connections. The new TIE service will be fully integrated into Telx's product and service portfolio and customers in New York and Dallas now have the ability to purchase space, power and interconnectivity between networks as well as interconnectivity to the respective TIE platforms.
Telx Internet Exchanges are built on Force 10 equipment.
Telx has 15 facilities in North America serving more than 600 telecommunications carriers, ISPs, content providers and enterprises. These facilities are located in New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Miami, Phoenix, Charlotte, as well as Weehawken and Clifton, N.J.
