Twitter may be a great way to tell people “what you are doing,” but it seems criminals are now using it to coordinate their nefarious efforts.
Police say a group of kids between the ages of 14 and 17 used messages on MySpace and Twitter to gather in one spot in South Philadelphia over the weekend. Then they proceeded to commit a series of violent and property crimes, including a carjacking, an assault and vandalism.
It’s not the first time something like this has happened. Authorities say they’ve been monitoring social networking sites for these kinds of potential mob activities, but with this mob of more than 100 teenagers, they were overwhelmed.
Philadelphia Police are shifting more officers to the south side and will ask the city to form a night court to help handle any further problems with teen mobs.
