There’s another competitor in the already crowded content delivery networks (CDN) field.

Startup Cotendo, which secured $7 million in private funding in March, is taking on CDN power player Akamai Technologies. Cotendo says it’s different from the other CDN companies because it sells a service, rather than a product.

That’s a vague descriptor, but we’re guessing it has to do with Cotendo’s focus away from video streaming and on applications such as e-commerce. It does dynamic site acceleration, which increases the efficiency of sites whose content changes frequently (such as new Cotendo customer Seeking Alpha and TechCrunch).
