There were many people wondering whether the pricey Amazon Kindle 2 e-Reader would snag that many customers willing to drop $359 on a single-purpose device, and perhaps we now have our answer. Amazon has dropped the Kindle 2’s pricing $60, to $299.
Some say the price chop is simply a result of higher manufacturing volumes, lower production costs and an altruistic Amazon passing the savings along. Others would argue that the new $299 price tag is a bit more competitive with Sony’s e-Reader line, which starts at $279.
The big-screen Kindle DX will retain its original price of $489.
