Although many operators are lowering their capital expenditure budgets for 2009 and early 2010, spending on subscriber data management solutions actually will increase, according to new research from Infonetics Research that found SDM software is helping operators improve their bottom lines by reducing revenue leakage, speeding time to market and streamlining fulfillment.

Infonetics forecast worldwide SDM software and integration services revenue to grow at an average annual rate of 41 percent between 2008 and 2013, reaching $853 million at the end of the forecast period.

"Subscriber data management solutions are increasingly being viewed as strategic tools that can help operators better monetize their existing assets,” said Shira Levine, directing analyst for next-gen OSS and policy at Infonetics Research. “Fixed and mobile networks and OSS/BSS systems contain a staggering amount of valuable data that operators must be able to extract, normalize and analyze, but to do so, they need a platform that can pull that data together and act as a centralized repository.”

Initiatives such as churn management, customer segmentation, and revenue assurance require operators to be able to compile a complete picture of the subscriber, leveraging data from multiple data sources, both internal and external.

SDM solutions provide a way for operators to federate and centralize their subscriber and AAA data across a range of networks, including UMTS, GSM, and CDMA, which eases network migration challenges, the report noted.
