The Justice Department has approved Oracle Corp.’s (ORCL) $7.4 billion takeover of Sun Microsystems (JAVA).
However, Oracle still has to meet certain conditions and get European regulators’ consent.
Sun stockholders signed off on the deal a month ago, on July 16. Oracle is getting new reach into computer hardware, obtaining the MySQL database and gaining control of the Java programming language.
Oracle announced in April it would buy Sun, just weeks after acquisition talks between IBM Corp. and Sun broke down.
