In a shocking new study sure to bring Twitter users to their knees – yes, we’re being sarcastic – nearly two in five “tweets” on the microblogging site are said to be “pointless babble.” (We prefer “blather” and “drivel” ourselves.)
Researcher Pear Analytics did a random, two-week sample, using 2,000 tweets to come up with its conclusions, deciding that 37 percent of the short messages did not have significant value.
The only thing truly surprising about the study is that babble only accounts for 37 percent of tweets. Of course, one man’s babble is another man’s treasure.
