Twitter is blaming a denial-of-service attack on its Thursday morning problems.
A denial-of-service attack is just what it sounds like – simply someone hacking in, trying to make the site inaccessible. Apparently it worked. The popular microblogging site went down at about 9 a.m. ET, then returned in extreme slo-mo mode after about half an hour, then was out again entirely as Twitter worked to fix the problem.
As of 12 p.m. ET, the Twitter home page was loading again, but very slowly.
