SUPERCOMM 2009 – Hatteras Networks announced Monday the immediate availability of a new modular, multiservice platform designed to enable carriers to offer any service, over any media from one ultra-dense 2ru chassis. The company will be showcasing the new HN6100 platform at SUPERCOMM, Oct. 21-23, as a cost-effective way to gradually transition from TDM to next-generation Ethernet services.

The gearmaker also announced the addition of two CPE series that work in tandem with the new 40gbps HN6100 platform.

Carriers want a single solution for Ethernet access – whether that’s Ethernet over copper, Ethernet over TDM, TDM over Ethernet or Ethernet over fiber, said Vijay Raman, vice president of marketing and product line management for Hatteras, in an interview with xchange. With the HN6100, carriers can choose to support one or all in the same chassis by switching out line cards in any slot. Among the advantages are few vendors to manage and a common network management system.

The HN6100 supports Ethernet over copper in conjunction with Hatteras’ existing HN400 series CPE. The new HN500 series allows for Ethernet over TDM and Ethernet over NxT1/E1 support. And, the new HN600 Series supports circuit emulation using enhanced PWE3. The HN6100 chassis also will support Ethernet over fiber as early as mid-2010.

Support for all Ethernet flavors enables the HN6100 to simultaneously support Ethernet business services via copper or fiber, DSLAM backhaul, dedicated Internet access, private lines, layered VoIP transport, multitenant Ethernet and mobile backhaul.

The HN6100 is suitable for deployment in a central office, controlled environmental vault or outside plant remote terminal, and it can be deployed at a cell site or customer location, as well.

With the carrier-class HN500 Series, carriers can quickly bond up to eight T1/E1 signals over a single Ethernet connection and provide services of up to 12 and 16mbps respectively.

The new HN600 Series and patented PWE3-plus capability enables simultaneous transport of native TDM and native Ethernet traffic over copper with embedded network timing. Unlike traditional PWE3, which suffers from the delay, jitter and timing impacts of packetization, Hatteras’ PWE3-plus emulates a T1 and passes timing synchronization information.
