COMPTEL PLUS — NTT America, the U.S. division of Tokyo-based NTT Communications Corp., soon will unveil a new multipoint Ethernet product for downstream service providers.
The wholesale offering will enable those operators to connect their data centers in a mesh or hub and spoke configuration using Ethernet rather than private lines. The idea is to “ease the transition” when replacing ATM or TDM networks, said Cody Christman, director of product engineering for NTT America.
The benefits, he said, include rapid bandwidth provisioning and top-of-the-line service level agreements (SLA). For example, the Ethernet service comes with agreements covering availability, latency, packet loss and jitter. NTT America called its jitter SLA “the best ... on the market,” a big plus in the era of bandwidth-hogging applications such as video and data.
NTT America made its announcement at this week’s COMPTEL PLUS Convention & Expo in Orlando.
