Expanding the still-tiny universe of mobile video, wireless social-media application provider fring said it has enabled “the world’s first mobile video calls over Internet protocol (IP).”

Embedded in the application that allows free VoIP calls to other fring users as well as Skype and GoogleTalk users, the new version of fring with video calls is available for the Symbian operating system on Nokia (NOK) devices including the X6, N97, 5800 and other handsets.

Designed to connect users’ various social media and messaging apps in a single interface, fring recently released its first version for Android, the mobile operating system developed by Google Inc. GOOG). The new application uses the Nokia devices’ integrated cameras, and works with fring and Skype video calls. Other devices will be added in coming months, the company said.

“fring was the first to bring Nokia, iPhone and Android users the choice to make free calls together with live chat over their devices’ Internet connection,” said fring CEO Avi Shechter, “and now we’re proud to continue leading the field with the world’s first mobile video over internet including fring and Skype mobile video calls.”
