Virtual network operator Nitel Inc. announced Thursday a partnership with TowerSource, enabling users of the TowerSource marketplace to source Nitel’s backhaul network connectivity from wireless towers in the 48 contiguous states.
TowerSource marketplace connects tower owners to those seeking to secure vertical real estate for colocation.
Nitel uses the networks of more than 100 carriers across the country.
“Nitel’s ability to provide connectivity, particularly in difficult-to-reach or rural areas, fills a need for many wireless companies,” said Nitel CEO Rick Stern. “We’ve witnessed a shift in the marketplace over the past few years. With the increased ability for wireless devices to handle more e-mail and data-intensive applications, carriers have gone from a single T1 at a cell site to multiple T1s, a DS3 or Ethernet connectivity. Our partnership with TowerSource will make it easy for wireless companies to provide a greater range of service to their customers.”
