ARG ElectroDesign Ltd. is leveraging Fast Redundant Ring Ethernet switch technology for its signal distribution products for the broadcast and telecom industries. Result: The ability to build low-delay, fault-tolerant ring and meshed Ethernet networks for video content distribution.

ARG has enhanced its Media Combiner range of broadcast network adapters with the introduction of the Media Combiner 1900EX. It has been designed for the transmission of real-time video IP sources, and DVB-ASI and 2mbps G.703 signals over carrier Ethernet and private microwave circuits in ring and meshed topologies.

Content distribution applications include mobile backhaul, terrestrial and mobile and terrestrial digital television access, and digital radio distribution.

The 1900EX’s integrated 32 Gigabit non-blocking Ethernet switch with Fast Redundant Ring technology enables users to attain redundancy switching speeds of less than 5 milliseconds per link, the company says. That’s a big improvement over traditional enterprise Ethernet switch technology that makes use of spanning tree protocol.

“Customers and service providers need easy to use solutions to make the most of carrier Ethernet services that are starting to replace SDH and PDH networks,” said Mike Footer, sales and marketing director at ARG. “The Media Combiner 1900 range of network adapters continues to provide easily managed solutions that offer advanced, highly sophisticated technology within a cost-effective framework.”

The Media Combiner 1900EX MPEG network adapter will be available beginning in February diect from ARG and its global network of business partners. The company says that existing SDH and PDH users of 1934, 1934 and 1915 Media Combiners can return their existing product to ARG for upgrade to the 1900E or 1900EX models.
