HD video advertising just got a boost with BigBand Networks Inc.’s release of its Broadcast Video Services Software 3.0, which enables IPTV, cablecos and others to deploy up to 150 percent more HD advertising and process up to 140 percent more individual HD program streams.
The software is being offered as an upgrade to BigBand’s installed base of Broadband Multimedia Routers (BMRs), which are supporting in excess of 60 million subscribers worldwide and delivering over 700 million advertising transactions a year.
“The BMR has the proven performance to accommodate the explosion in HD content libraries, the surge in projected ad spends, the migration to addressable advertising, interactive services, and the anticipated rollout of 3D TV,” said Paul Crann, vice president, product management, BigBand. “This platform enables our customers to quickly ramp additional advertising revenues seamlessly and cost effectively. The BMR’s successful track record has established it as a proven, reliable and high quality platform. This software upgrade continues to utilize our customers’ existing investment while leveraging an outstanding operational track record.”
The Broadcast Video Services Software 3.0 enhancements reduce power costs and free up valuable rack space that operators can use to deploy additional services. For existing BMR deployments, customers can also increase splicing, clamping and rate shaping with no need for additional hardware. The new software upgrade further reduces configuration complexity for ease of deployment and management.
The BigBand BMR supports a variety of applications including digital simulcast, digital TV management, digital ad insertion, addressable advertising, Enhanced TV, HDTV and SDV.
