CTIA Wireless — The Nortel Networks Corp. (NT) Carrier VoIP and Application Solutions unit previewed Tuesday at CTIA Wireless 2010 enhancements to its 4G Mobile VoIP solution that are expected to be available in the second half of 2010.

Nortel CVAS’ 4G Mobile VoIP solution equips operators to deliver voice, messaging and multimedia services to subscriber devices with seamless hand-off across Wi-Fi, GSM 2G/3G, CDMA 2G/3G, HSPA/+, WiMAX and LTE networks.

Enhancements include advanced routing capabilities, billing correlation between legacy cellular and SIP networks, and roaming support on a foreign cellular operator’s network. The solution now offers integrated wireless signaling gateway capability that allows operators to leverage their existing OAM systems for fault management, performance management, provisioning and billing.

In addition, it offers operators the ability to deliver single identity, presence, Web-based call screening, visual voice mail, and SMS-to-IM interworking.

Nortel CVAS 4G Mobile VoIP solution enhancements are included in the latest software releases of the Nortel’s Adaptive Application Engine SIP software engine (Rel A2E 8.0). The solution can be deployed as a standalone SIP Application Server, as a 3GPP IMS-compliant application server or as an upgrade for carrier customers who have already deployed Nortel's Communication Server (CS) 2000 IP Multimedia softswitch.

CVAS in the Nortel unit that GENBAND is expected to acquire. The purchase was approved by the bankruptcy courts earlier this month. The transaction is expected to close in second quarter.
