Softswitch and application software provider Metaswitch dealt with the biggest economic downturn since the Great Depression just fine, growing revenue for the year ending last Aug. 31 by 4.2 percent, with operating margins of 20 percent-plus. Acts of God, however, are not so easy to handle.

The Metaswitch Forum, which was scheduled for May 17-20 at the Gaylord Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn., has been postponed due to the massive floods that have ravaged central Tennessee over the last week. Held last year in Las Vegas, the Metaswitch event, along with BroadSoft’s Connections conference, has become an important date on the calendars of VoIP providers, offering a look ahead at the future of IP-based applications and platforms.

Richard Williams, president of Connect2 Communications, which handles public relations for Metaswitch, said in an e-mail that the flooding has left the Gaylord underwater and that the event will be rescheduled for later in the year.

The Cumberland River, which winds through Nashville’s center, overran its banks last weekend after more than 13 inches of torrential rainfall. The floods have been blamed in the deaths of at least 18 people in Tennessee alone, including nine in Nashville.
